Dr. Beth Erickson
(Interview featured on A Man's World, June 13, 2006)

What would you say if I told you that George W. Bush and Bill Clinton's father complex has led to war, womanizing and deceit? While it's true that we so very rarely think about a political leader’s childhood personal problems, for an expert like Dr. Beth Erickson, those issues are glaringly evident in everything elected officials say and do.

Dr. Erickson believes that President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton have a father complex. Because Bush's dad was absent and aloof, she says George W. now has a hyper masculine, cowboy persona. The death of Bill Clinton's dad, and an abusive stepfather made him a philanderer who cannot make or keep commitments.

In one of my most thought-provoking shows, Dr. Erickson will explain — in plain English — how and why these politicians, and many others, act as they do.

During this show, you'll learn:

  • The seven sources of father hunger and how to know if you have it.
  • The impact of a father's loss on the entire family and its remedy.
  • What is traditional fathering, and why does that constitute a loss?
  • Why are fathers so important; and why is it that usually the less a father is available to a child the more important he becomes?
  • How do any of us that suffer this "father loss" grieve something that happened so long ago?
  • How does Father Loss affect men's ability to parent, and to be intimate with a partner?
